The new German TTS (Text-to-Speech) voice of the Nuance VocalizerTM is pleasantly natural and also speaks four additional European languages accent-free.
(...) the voice behind "Anna" belongs to Heike Hagen. The Berlin-based professional voice over artist beat more than 100 other applicants in a selection process carried out by Nuance and its main partners from the automotive industry.
The developers of Nuance place a great deal of importance on the pronunciation of proper names, for example location and street names, or the titles of music tracks. Heike Hagen had to record thousands of individual words and sentences so that "Anna" could adhere to the high quality standards for premium class navigation and infotainment systems.
Many modern applications must be available in several language versions. This is why perfect German pronunciation was not the only important selection criterion – Heike Hagen impressed judges with her fluent and accent-free English, French, Italian and Spanish. Through the integration of recordings in these additional languages, Nuance has succeeded in developing a truly multi-lingual system: If a German driver is traveling in France, Anna pronounces the location and street names in perfect French; the Italian music track titles are also read out flawlessly as are the text messages sent by English colleagues – and always with the same clear voice (…)
